RIDE THE RED CENTRE

WHERE TO RIDE?

Alice Springs bike paths make getting around to see the attractions super easy and fun!

HALF DAY destinations

  • Easily accessible from the sealed Riverside Bike Path, the Alice Springs Telegraph Station is approximately a 6km ride from our shop. Enjoy a daily guided tour to learn the history of our outback town. There is also a cafe, a beautiful park area and is the heart of the Eastside Mountain Bike Trails. Make your way to Trig Hill to view the town worth the short climb. Challenge yourself if on a mountain bike and ride across the Todd to the dirt track back to town.

  • Along the sealed Riverside Bike path you can ride to the Olive Pink Botanical Gardens. Stop here for a relaxing drink, lunch or stroll in the gardens. We recommend the short hill climb to overlook the town and a chance to see Black-footed Rock Wallabies up close.

  • Royal Flying Doctors Service Facility is located just on the outskirts of the CBD. Enjoy one of their daily guided tours to learn more about the RFDS or enjoy a bite to eat at the Base Cafe next door.

  • Make sure you get to the 10am Bird Show! It’s worth it. Approx. 8km from town centre, ride along the Desert Park Bike Path parallel to the majestic West MacDonnell Ranges - make sure you find the start of the Bike Path from Blain Street! There is a cafe to quench your thrirst and fill you up for your next ride. You can ride your bikes all the way to the front entrance right next to the cafe. Here’s the best way to get there - bike path map

FULL DAY destinations

  • A popular day ride is out to Simpsons Gap and back. The bike paths are sealed all the way to Simpson’s Gap, making our electric commuter bikes ideal for this ride. Be aware, the journey is approx. 24km from the town centre to Simpson’s Gap (one way). We recommend allowing up to 2.5hrs one way (though it can be achieved in 1-1.5hrs for experienced riders). There is no cafe at Simpsons Gap, so we advise packing a lunch to enjoy at one of the picnic tables along the way, or in the cool sand at Simpsons Gap. You can collect a picnic lunch from Coolamon Cafe at the Desert Park on your way through. You can refill your water at Simpsons Gap and use the toilet facilities provided. The best route there is via the Desert Park Bike Path starting from Blain Street - this ensures a scenic ride along the West MacDonnell ranges away from residential/traffic areas. There is no phone coverage at Simpsons Gap, with the exception of the Mobile Hot Spot which is located near the toilets. Park Passes are required before entering the West MacDonnell Range Park from NT Parks and Wildlife $8pp for interstate visitors only.

  • Please see the MTB Trail Map for a guide of all the paths clearly marked out. We provide a free trail map with all bike hires.

There are trails for beginners, intermediate and experienced mountain bikers to enjoy!
